The Wee Spiders travelled north to play Aberdeen on the eve of the ‘big’ teams doing likewise in the Scottish Cup.
The last time the two sides met was in the Scottish Youth Cup in December with Queen’s running out 3-1 winners.
This was the final round of fixtures before the league split with both sides already in the top six.
It was a cool, windy, but sunny day at Cormack Park with the Dons kicking off with the wind at their backs.
Three minutes in, Connor Falls created Queen’s first chance, beating three players before crossing the ball into the Aberdeen box for Sam Maclachlan to shot over the bar.
It was the young Dons side who opened the scoring on the 13-minute mark. Queen’s keeper Rory Campbell attempted to play the ball out from his feet, however his clearance was blocked by Aberdeen’s Tristan Stephen, with the deflected ball rebounding off the striker’s foot and into the net.
Queen’s equalised in the 20th minute. A corner from the right was played into Aberdeen’s box. The ball bobbled about the crowded box before Sam Maclachlan smacked the ball into the net from 12 yards out.
In the 36th minute the Wee Spiders were awarded a penalty when Matthew Murray-Smith was brought down in the Dons’ penalty box, after a fast break down the left wing. Connor Falls converted the spot kick hitting the ball to Aberdeen’s Rodrigo Vitols’ left.
Queen’s pushed for more goals with Sam Maclachlan and Connor Falls testing the Dons keeper from distance.
In the 38th minute the Dons keeper pulled off a superb save from a Connor Falls shot from six yards out, pushing the ball onto the post before catching the rebound.

The Dons started the second half strongly with Jack Searle narrowly missing the target two minutes into the second period.
Connor Falls stretched the Aberdeen back line in the 61st minute, racing past three defenders, before knocking the ball just past the far post in an attempt to beat the advancing keeper.
Aberdeen were now on top, putting Queen’s under pressure. In the 67th minute a great recovery by Danny Matheson. Aberdeen’s Joseph Teasdale had picked up a loose ball at the edge of the Queen’s six yard box. As he drew back to shoot, Danny nicked the ball off the Dons forward and cleared the danger.
Aberdeen did equalise in the 72nd minute. Bradley Chikomo intercepted a loose pass, moved through on goal and placed the ball, past Rory Campbell, into the far corner of the net.
One minute later it could have been a third for the Dons side. A shot from a Dons forward was deflected by a Queen’s defender, Rory Campbell managed to change direction and smother the ball before it entered the net.
Aberdeen scored the winner in the 83rd minute, A through ball from Cooper Masson found Joseph Teasdale, unmarked on the left side of the Queen’s box. Joseph has all the time to hit the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
The Dons had a chance to extend their lead in the 87th minute when Joseph Teasdle was through on goal. His shot was partially blocked by Rory Campbell before being cleared off the line.
Queen’s almost got the equaliser two minutes into stoppage time when a Nathan Lees header brought out a superb diving save by Dons keeper Rodrigo Vitols.
