Spider’s Scotland squad call up

QUEEN’S PARK FC is delighted to confirm Aiden McGinlay has been called up to Scotland under-19s squad for three international fixtures next month.

The 18-year-old is part of Neil Macfarlane’s 22-player pool heading to the Slovenia Nations Cup. 

Aiden joined Queen’s Park last year and helped the B team to the SPFL Reserve League title under Sean Crighton – and was also promoted to the first-team, making his debut against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup quarter final and achieving his first start a month later.

The left-sided attacking midfielder has already been involved in Scotland training camps this year – called in to an east coast get together with Spiders’ keeper Milosz Sliwinski back in May.

Now McGinlay has the opportunity to compete for game time and Queen’s Park head coach is delighted with the recognition.

He said: “I’m really pleased to see Aiden’s name included in the squad – he deserves it.

“He’s a player who showed his qualities for us at the end of last season when he moved into the first-team and he’s done the same this season too.

“He’s been part of our first-team pool since the start of the season and just needs to keep working hard and take his opportunities when they come.

“Myself, all the staff, his team-mates and everyone at the club is really pleased for him.”

The Scotland under-19s will play competition hosts Slovenia then Kazakhstan and UAE over six days at the start of next month.
