Airdrieonians Preview

The Spiders make the short journey to Airdrie tonight to take on Ian Murray’s in form Diamond’s side and bring 2021 to a close. Remarkably this will be the fourth meeting of the sides already this season have met once in the league as well as in the Premier Sports Cup and SPFL Trust Trophy since late July. If those previous encounters are anything to go by, tonight’s match will be another keenly contested encounter.

Ahead of the game the club media team spoke to Laurie Ellis to get his thoughts. Laurie said: “We are looking forward to this one tonight but know we will face a tough test against a strong Airdrie side who are going well at the moment. We know they have a strong squad and they have a good home record this season so we are expecting a real challenge tonight.”

“We know from the previous meetings with them this season that there has not been much between the teams. Both have squads full of hard working individuals and players that are committed to winning games so tonight could be another tight encounter.”

“From our perspective we have obviously had a couple of mixed results recently and we remain very keen to put that right. We know Airdrie have had a couple of good results in recent games and they will be confident and looking to continue that so we will need to be ready for the challenge.”

“With the postponement of our game against Dumbarton on Boxing Day, they players are desperate to play. The players train hard every day and every week in preparation for games so it’s a massive let down when games do not go ahead. So the opportunity to get back out on the pitch tonight is one which really excites the squad.”

“On the squad front, like every other club in the country, we are having to adapt and deal with things changing on a daily basis but we are confident in showing our adaptability to deal with the challenges which come our way.”
