The Spiders make the journey down the M74 to Dumfriesshire on Saturday to take on seventh placed Annan Athletic at Galabank, in our final league fixture of 2020. They do so with the momentum of an unbeaten start in the league behind us, having picked up 20 points from the first eight matches. On the road the Spiders have yet to concede in league action, a statistic that the players and coaching staff alike will be hoping to build upon this afternoon.
Manager’s thoughts
“We head to Galabank in a confident frame of mind but very much expecting a difficult game against Annan. The players know that they will need to be at their best from the start and we want to see them matching the high standards they’ve set themselves so far this season.
“It’s important that we keep it tight at the back and stamp our authority on the game early on. That’s the case for every game this season, home or away. We can’t afford to make the mistakes we did against Edinburgh City last week, mistakes which we were punished for.
“I’m delighted that we will be playing in front of fans again. I heard this week that would be the case and it is great news. It’s a welcome step forward in Scotland, given we are seeing it happening down south, and even although it won’t be our own fans at this stage, it will be a welcome sight and it will certainly add to the match.
Squad news: The gaffer was delighted to confirm that he has no fresh injury concerns to contend with ahead of the match which gives him a fully fit squad to choose from.
The opposition: It’s been a fortnight since the Galabank side were last in action after the weather put paid to their scheduled match away to Brechin City last Saturday. Peter Murphy’s side’s last outing was a narrow 1-0 defeat at Borough Briggs where a long range effort from Russell Dingwall not long after the break was enough to ensure the points for Elgin City. In all competitions Annan have played five home games so far this season, winning one, drawing two, losing two, scoring seven and conceding 10.
