The Spiders are back in action tonigh as Peter Murphy’s Annan side visit the Falkirk Stadium. Queen’s go into the game on the back of another victory at the weekend, having overcome Stenhousemuir at Ochilview, a victory that saw the lead at the top extended to 12 points over our closest rivals. That win made it 18 points in 6 games since the return of football last month and Ray McKinnon’s men will be looking to add to that tally when the Galabank side come calling.
The gaffer spoke to the media team on the eve of the game and gave his thoughts: “We are all very much looking forward to the game tomorrow night. At the risk of sounding like I’m repeating myself it’s another big three points up for grabs. We are in good form and looking to continue that but it’s vital that we show Annan the respect they deserve.”
“We have had their last couple of games watched and by all accounts the reports we have had indicate they could and should have won both games. Annan are fighting for their lives and we know they will be dangerous and will pose a threat. They will look to make it as tough as possible for us but we just need to ensure we go out there and concentrate on doing what we know we do best. If we can keep those consistency levels up we will give ourselves every chance of winning the match.”
“I know it’s an old cliche but we need to continue to take a game at a time, picking up as many points as we can. We still need to get to that end point and we are absolutely not there yet. We can’t afford to lose focus and look any further ahead than the next game and the players know that.”
“I know we spoke in the build up to Saturday about how pleasing it has been to be able to rotate the squad as we would have wanted it recent weeks and I felt that again worked well at Ochilview. It’s likely we will look to freshen up again as everyone who has been coming in has really put in a performance. I think that’s largely down to the fact that they have had time to recharge the batteries.”
The opposition: The Galabankies have had a very disappointing season to date and find themselves sitting second bottom, six points clear of Brechin City. Peter Murphy’s side have won just two of their 15 games so far with the last of those coming on 21st November away to Stenhousemuir. Annan go into the game looking to end a run of seven games without a win, with their last victory having come against Gala Fairydean in the Scottish Cup on 26th December.
