Awe-struck at Armband presentation
LOUIS LONGRIDGE’S first captain’s armband delivery elicited an awe-struck expression from Alexander McLean.
The nine-year-old stayed behind with dad Paul to applaud the team off the pitch after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Dunfermline.
With captain Euan Murray off injured, midfielder Longridge assumed the armband for the closing stages, then gifted the match-worn gear to the youngster as Murray has done many times before him.
Handing the armband out has brought smiles to the faces of plenty of the next generation of Spiders supporters – and it did the same with the Neilston Primary pupil. He was caught on camera roaring with delight alongside a friend in a video viewed thousands of times on social media.
Alexander also hopes to be the next generation of footballers like Louis too.
He was part of last season’s Academy system at Lochinch but now plays with Partick Thistle and keeps a soft spot for the Spiders he used to represent.
His favourite player is Joshua Kimmich… but from a southside perspective it’s Aidan Connolly – though Saturday’s gift has lifted Louis in his estimations too.
The captain’s armband is sponsored by the QPSA and handed out at the end of every home match to a young supporter who stays behind the cheer Sean Crighton’s side off at The city Stadium.
Look out for Euan, Louis – or even Josh Fowler – at the end of the Partick Thistle match on December 27.
