Queen's bounced back from successive defeats by beating Boroughmuir Thistle 3-2 at Meadowbank in SWPL2 on Sunday.
After two successive defeats, Queen’s Park were looking to get back to winning ways in Edinburgh on Sunday, however, a tough fixture against Boroughmuir Thistle stood in their way.
Head Coach Craig Joyce made three changes to the starting eleven as Chloe Gibney, Yasmin Boyce and Caitlin McKee replaced Lauren Grant, Hannah Fulton and Abbi McDonald respectively. New signing Rachael O’Neill was on the bench.
Queen’s Park started the game sharply with Alex Fraser trying her luck from distance inside the first two minutes.
Abby Callaghan would be next to threaten, but her strike was just wide of the post.
Within the next minute Caitlin McKee tested Lisa Rodgers in goal, and Callaghan had another chance drift wide immediately after.
As the game went on, Boroughmuir grew into the game and found themselves with a number of half chances.
Sydney Hinchcliffe dragged her shot wide of the post and Eilidh Begg forced a comfortable but good save from Chloe Gibney.
The breakthrough would spectacularly come for the visitors thanks to Caitlin McKee. Eleanor Smith played a long pass forward which caught the Boroughmuir defender off guard as she could only knock it into McKee’s path, who lifted the ball over Rodgers in goal first time with no hesitation.
The home side were almost back on level terms immediately. Begg headed a cross towards goal but Gibney was there stop the shot. Begg followed up but Gibney was also there to keep this effort out.

Boroughmuir had the first chance of the second half as Begg played a cross into the box. The ball arrived at the feet of Hannah Davie. Davie had time to take a touch, but her shoot was comfortably saved by Gibney.
Sometime after in the 62nd minute, Boroughmuir would threaten again. This time it would be Sammi Duncan free in the box, but her strike was straight at Gibney.
Despite the home side’s efforts, Queen’s would go two goals ahead in the 70th minute. McKee picked up the ball inside her own half and played through Abby Callaghan, who struck first time from 30 yards catching Rodgers off her line, scoring her 10th league goal of the season in the process.
Within three minutes, Boroughmuir were able to grab a goal and make the closing 15 minutes much more interesting.
Duncan knocking into the empty net after Clare Williamson poked the ball past the onrushing Gibney.
The game then entered a frantic end-to-end period as both sides looked to ensure they took something from the game.
The Spider put themselves in a great position to do so thanks to McKee’s second goal of the day. Abby Callaghan drove down the wing before crossing the ball into the back post for McKee who timed her run excellently to slot the ball into the net, giving Queen’s some breathing space again and capping an excellent day for McKee.
Shannon Todd would grab a consolation goal for Boroughmuir in the 92nd minute, but ultimately it wasn’t enough to take the game from the Spiders who left the capital with a great three points.
