Despite being high summer in the capital, it felt more like autumn with a strong, cold wind blowing down the wide-open Meadowbank Stadium.
Queen’s kicked off into the breeze and took the game to Boroughmuir. In the opening five minutes Summer Thomson and Rebecca McAllister tested the Boroughmuir keeper
With the wind behind them, Boroughmuir had plenty of possession with most of the game being played in the Queen’s half. Abbie Cusack, back in at centre-half, and Rachael O’Neill kept a tight line at the back, supporting youngsters Evie Swann and Charley Dickson.
Hannah Cairns pushed to create an opener but found it tough to get the ball through a packed Boroughmuir defence.
Just when it looked like the half would finish all square, Boroughmuir opened the scoring. RIA McCAFFERTY had a shot from outside the Queen’s box which deceived Natalie Angeline and flew over her head into the net.
Three minutes later the Edinburgh side doubled their lead. AMY DENHOLM delivered a cross to the back post. The wind carried the ball over the line.

Now with the wind behind them, Queen’s pushed to get back in the game. The game was now being played in the Boroughmuir half. Although Rosie McQuillan and Rebecca McAllister were forcing the game, their efforts were restricted to long range.
As it happens often when a team are dominating, the opposition add another. In the 62nd minute Boroughmuir broke out with CARYS GRIEVE hitting a superb strike from outside the Queen’s box into the far corner of the net.
Queen’s made a number of changes in an attempt to open up the Boroughmuir defence without any success.
