Boroughmuir Thistle vs Queen’s Park Women Preview

Queen’s Park are back in SWPL 2 action this Wednesday as they face another newly-promoted side, Boroughmuir Thistle, at the Meggetland Sports Complex in Edinburgh. The match kicks-off at 7:30 PM. Spectators are not permitted under current government guidelines.

THE LEAGUE

On Wednesday, Dundee United play Glasgow Women at home, Aberdeen host St Johnstone at the Aberdeen Sports Village, while Kilmarnock face Stirling University at Rugby Park. Hamilton Academical travel to meet Partick Thistle at the Lochinch Sports Pavilion on Thursday night. A list of the full fixtures can be found here.

THE OPPOSITION

The most recent meeting between the two sides came in the now-defunct SWFL 1 South on Sunday, 22nd September 2019. The match ended 2–1 to Boroughmuir Thistle, with Ashley McKeown on the scoresheet for the Spiders. Queen’s Park had previously won, 4–2, on Sunday, 5th May 2019 against the Edinburgh side. Helen Templeton and Alix Wilkinson grabbed the two goals for Thistle, while Frankie Fern (3) and Ashley McKeown (1) scored for the Spiders.

Last season (2019), Boroughmuir Thistle finished in fifth place in the SWFL 1 South, with 11 wins, 3 draws and 8 losses; they scored 69 goals (the fifth best attacking record in the SWFL 1 South) and conceded 44 (the fifth best defensive record in the SWFL 1 South).

Boroughmuir Thistle were defeated, 3–1, by Hamilton Academical in their first match of the 2020–21 SWPL 2 season, with Beth MacLeod scoring the lone goal for her side. After a heavy defeat (9–0) at the hands of Aberdeen, they narrowly lost 1–0 to Kilmarnock last weekend, and they will be looking to get their first points on the board when Mark Kirk’s side come to Edinburgh on Wednesday.
