Brechin City Preview

It’s top versus bottom at Glebe Park this Saturday as the Spiders travel north to take on Michael Paton’s Brechin City. Ray McKinnon’s men go into the game looking to build on their winning return to football courtesy of the 3-0 defeat of Stranraer at Hampden a week ago but that’ll be no easy task against a side who are fighting to lift themselves off the foot of the table.

Ahead of the match the club media team caught up with the gaffer to get his thoughts, Ray said: “We’re very much looking forward to the game but fully expect it to be a tricky encounter. Brechin are scrapping for every point at the moment and will be looking to make it as difficult as possible for us.”

“Brechin have strengthened very well over the break with nine new signings and now have the experience of guys like Abdul Osman and Gerry McLauchlan, so from that perspective they are a completely different team to that which we came up against earlier in the season.”

“We know it’ll be a tough game and we will pay Brechin the respect they deserve but we do go into the game full of confidence after last week’s victory. It was important for us to start back with the win last week and it’s now vital that we look to build on that as we enter a very busy schedule of games over the coming weeks. The spirit in the camp has been great this week and it’s clear that the boys are buzzing and glad to be back.”

“On the squad front we do continue to have one or two injuries doubts to contend with. We will be without the services of Luca who is away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland U21’s but as I’ve said before when someone is unavailable, this creates an opportunity for someone else to come in and stake their claim.”

The opposition: City currently occupy bottom spot in League Two just two points behind second bottom Albion Rovers. With only five points separating them, and seventh place Annan Athletic, it’s all to play for for the Glebe Park side. Michael Paton’s side go into the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat away to Stranraer at Stair Park on Tuesday night but having strengthened their squad considerably during the shutdown, they will be hopeful of a u-turn in their fortunes.
