For the first time in four weeks the Spiders are back on the road this weekend and Central Park is the destination where a tough test awaits from Gary Bollan’s side. Ray McKinnon’s squad will be looking to build further on their unbeaten start to the league campaign but The Blue Brazil will have other ideas as they seek to put a halt to their recent run of three defeats on the bounce.
Manager’s thoughts
“We’re expecting a difficult game against a Cowdenbeath side that I know Gary will have set up well. Central Park is never an easy place to go but we are going into the game high in confidence and very much looking to build on the start we have made in the league. We can only focus on ourselves and as I have said a number of times in recent weeks, performances are key. We know that if we are are playing to the level we are capable of, results will follow.
“I think the boys have been performing to a high level and that’s something we want to continue into tomorrow’s game. The weather conditions alone are likely to make it a challenging 90 minutes. We’re obviously going into the game on the back of four home matches in a row where the players have been accustomed to the big a playing surface at Hampden which rivals any in the country, however the confidence within the squad will go a long way to helping us tomorrow.
“Last week showed the strength in depth we are building within the squad whereby when we had five or so players out through injury we were able to bring in others who stepped up to the plate. That was pleasing for me and pleasing to see those who got the opportunity, taking it. That gives me a positive headache selection going forward which is something I’m more than happy to have because there’s a real hunger and belief from all of the boys in the squad to do their best when selected.
Squad news: The gaffer was delighted to confirm that a trio of those missing last week, Peter Grant, Craig Slater and Louis Longridge have all overcome their respective injuries and are available for selection.
The opposition: Cowdenbeath go into the game on the back of a heavy defeat away to Elgin last Saturday. That defeat left Gary Bollan’s side sitting eighth in the table with four points from their opening five league fixtures. The Blue Brazil are looking to end a run of four matches within victory, with their last win coming against Edinburgh City at Ainslie Park on 24th October.
