SEAN CRIGHTON says a point at Partick Thistle – the hardest venue in the William Hill Championship – can be a springboard for the Spiders.
A hard-fought 0-0 draw at Firhill saw some defensive heroics from Jack Wills in goal – and the ten Spiders in front of him throughout.
It was a team effort to grind out the first point of the season, and a turnaround from last week’s disappointment against Stenhousemuir at home on the southside.
Now the first-team manager has challenged his team to build on the performance against Morton next weekend.
He said: “I couldn’t be prouder. Last week I questioned them a wee bit and they’ve gone out and shown they are really together.
“A point on the board at the hardest place in the league can be a springboard now for us to use. We have to keep our feet on the ground and take it onto next week.”
Statistics show Partick had 20 shots at Jack Wills’ net – but couldn’t breach the visitors’ backline.
Crighton added: “I thought my team gave me absolutely everything. We played to
a plan. We had to understand the team we were playing against and Partick
Thistle are a very good side, with a very deep squad with very good players.
“I’m so happy for Jack, a lot of questions were asked when Cal
Ferrie left. I didn’t ask them.
“I know Calum pushed Jack last season and I
brought David Mitchell in over the summer for that reason – he’s an experienced goalkeeper to push
him on. The goalkeeping department at the club are doing really well.
“Jack is a young goalkeeper but he played like an experienced
goalkeeper today. I’m really pleased for him.”
