Di Maggio’s Design a Pizza Competition

Queen’s Park’s First Team goalkeeper Calum Ferrie teamed together with legendary Scotland shot-stopper Alan Rough, and pupils from Thornliebank Primary School, to launch Di Maggio’s ‘Design a Pizza’ competition that gives schoolchildren the chance to have their EURO 2024 themed Pizza on the renowned restaurant’s menu.

The number ones visited Di Maggio’s in Royal Exchange Square to kick-off the ‘Design a Pizza’ competition that is set to test the children’s knowledge of European ingredients as well as their creativity with language.

The children will be asked to create a Pizza using four ingredients from a country competing in this summers EURO 2024 competition, so that could be Roast Beef, Yorkshire Puddings, gravy and carrots for England and Calum, or Haggis, Neeps, Tatties and Irn-Bru for Scotland and Alan, or indeed something that will be far tastier.

After selecting their ingredients, the children will be asked to come up with a name for the Pizza so they could create the home-grown ‘John Meatballs McGinn’, the ‘Jerdy Schouten in’ pizza if ingredients from the Netherlands are chosen or the Italian themed ‘Bryan Crusty Cristante’.

The children are also asked to describe their pizza with flair in poetry or prose and we are sure that they can write something better than my ‘My John ‘Meatballs’ McGinn has all the Scottish ingredients to secure the win.’

There are prizes aplenty to the winner who will not only see their pizza produced and appearing on the Di Maggio’s Menu but also receive an invite for their family to enjoy their creation in the restaurant.

As well as that, the winner will be able to treat their classmates to a jumbo-sized version of their pizza, this will be delivered to their school. The teacher of the winning pupil will also receive a voucher to use at Di Maggio’s for perhaps a quieter meal.

Queen’s Park will also be handing the winning pupil a goodie bag full of surprises from the Spiders with their Head of Commercial Kieran Koszary saying: “It is set to be an exciting summer with EURO 2024 taking place in Germany and it is great to bring some of that excitement to Glasgow. Our thanks go to Di Maggios, who not only are our training kit sponsor, for their help in creating this competition.”

“Creating a pizza that will be brought to life by the talented people at Di Maggios is a terrific prize and having it available on one of their menus is amazing.”

Mario Gizzi from DRG, who look after Di Maggios and many other restaurants in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Newcastle said: “The ‘Design a Pizza’ competition has worked well before however we wanted to add something to it this year and having EURO 2024 coming up seemed the ideal vehicle.”

“We are also asking the pupils to come up with some words to describe their pizza and those words could well be used to describe it on our menu.”

Entry forms are available HERE.

The competition runs until May 31, 2024 and entries can either be emailed to marketing@thedrg.co.uk or handed in at Queen’s Park Football Club, The city Stadium, Letherby Drive, Glasgow G42 9BA.
