It’s a big one tonight as the Spiders get their hands on the League Two trophy that was clinched just over week ago at The Falkirk Stadium courtesy of the goalless draw with Elgin City. Those of you tuning in to tonight’s QPTV Live stream will be able to enjoy all of the post match celebrations this evening, but before that there’s the small matter of a game of football that Ray McKinnon’s side will be looking to win.
Ahead of the game the gaffer spoke to the club media team. Ray said: “We are all looking forward to what will be a great occasion lifting the league trophy. It’s the culmination of a season of hard work from everyone at every level of the club and it’s a very special occasion for the fans who I really for in current circumstances”
“As I said when I spoke after the Elgin game last week, we have really missed not having them here with us this season and the title win is for them. Through social media etc. we are all very aware of the support we have had throughout the campaign and we are all too aware just how hard it has been for them not being able to be there in person for what has been a momentous season. The title win is very much for the supporters. We hope they can enjoy tonight as best as possible and we cannot wait to welcome them back.”
“On the game itself, we know we will be in for a real challenge. Games against Edinburgh City this season have been very tight and with them still having everything to play for in terms of securing a play-off place, we expect the game to have a real competitive edge.”
“We know how good a side they are and know they’ll be out to make it difficult for us and to try and do what they need to do to win the game, but that’s the type of challenge we will relish.”
“With such a short turnaround time between games this week we may look at rotating some of the players. It’s no surprise that we finished the game on Tuesday night with some tired legs but it was very pleasing to come away with the win.”
“I was delighted delighted with young Max Gillies making his senior debut and equally as pleased for Salim getting back on the scoresheet with his two goals. We now want to kick on from that and finish the season on a high if possible.”
The opposition: Gary Naismith’s side sit second in the table going into the game. The fight for a play off spot could not be tighter through with just three points separating all four sides in contention for the three places up for grabs. The Citizens last match was a 1-0 defeat at home to Stirling Albion last Saturday where a Dylan Mackin goal just before the break proved enough to separate the sides.
