The Spiders make the long journey up the A9 on Saturday to face second placed Elgin City at Borough Briggs. Ray McKinnon’s men go into the game looking to extend the unbeaten start to the season which has seen them pick up seven from a possible nine points, keeping three clean sheets along the way.
They face an Elgin City side who have also had a strong start to the season, winning their opening four matches, two Betfred Cup and two league matches, before going down to a narrow defeat to Edinburgh City at Ainslie Park last weekend.
Ahead of the game the manager spoke to the club media team and game his thoughts. Ray said: “We are expecting a very difficult game against a strong Elgin City side who will see themselves as contenders this season. They have had a good start to the season and will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat but we can only focus on ourselves and how we approach the game.
“We are going up there in a positive frame of mind looking to build on the start we have made to the season. I feel we are improving as a squad week on week, in terms of building that match fitness and sharpness. We will look to use the opening games, and the three clean sheets, as a springboard and to build upon that. We go there very much looking to win the game but we know that will be no easy task.
“For me, and I’ve said this before, performance is key. It’s important that we look to build on our performance levels week on week and if the players can go out there on Saturday and give everything they have got to get us a win, I will be delighted.
“It’s pleasing from my perspective that we go into the game with almost a full bill of health and no new injury concerns to content with from last week. The only one who will miss out is Simon Murray but I’m please to say that he is edging ever closer to being available for selection.”
