Footballs for Schools with the Spiders

Queen’s Park’s goal-grabbing duo of Simon Murray and Grant Savoury visited Mount Florida Primary School this week to launch another fantastic initiative from the club – ‘Footballs for Schools.’

Club captain Simon and Grant, who are already well-known to many of the pupils due to their support of the Spiders’ ‘Tickets for Schools’ programme, popped into the school, to hand over footballs that will give pupils the chance to have a ‘good old-fashioned kick-about’ at interval and lunch breaks.

The footballs, which have been donated in partnership with Pitch Teamwear, will be for everyone to play football with as opposed to being used in games with other schools.

Kieran Koszary, Head of Commercial at Queen’s Park explained: “The work we have undertaken with ‘Tickets for Schools’ has led us to ‘Footballs for Schools’.”

“When our players and club officials visited schools in the south-side of Glasgow, to discuss coming to our matches, they noticed lots of the children playing or wanting to play football. Sometimes the children were not able to get fully involved as there was a shortage of footballs.”

“That got us thinking about how we could help, especially as we want to unearth a goalscorer that will come out of a local primary school and score goals like Grant and Simon do so well or go on and captain Scotland like Andrew Robertson has done.”

“Handing over the footballs to the young people at local Primary Schools seems an excellent way of providing that help. Hopefully, the pupils will catch the football bug strongly, develop their skills in the play-ground and go on to represent Queen’s Park in years to come.”

Kieran added:” We will be visiting other local primary schools and handing over footballs in the next few weeks.”

Grant said: “It was nice for Simon and I to be representing the club in the community again.”

“Simon and I were both football mad when we were at school and would look to play at every opportunity. It was always a good feeling to have a football to play with and is nice to think that our club is helping a lot of children enjoy football.”
