The Queen’s Park FC Foundation has been making huge strides to reopen the Holyrood Sports Centre as a Community Sports Hub which will fully reflect and meet the needs of local communities and people.
Following a successful community engagement process, and the development of a sustainable business case the Foundation’s application to Glasgow City Council’s People Makes Glasgow’s Communities programme has reached the Development Phase which involves the preparation of legal and property arrangements for the proposal.
Commenting on progress so far Charlie Bennett the Foundation’s Executive Director said: “We are really grateful for the support of local people and organisations for our application. Our community engagement process has shown overwhelming support for reopening the Centre. We would also like to thank Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Life for their help in getting our application to this stage. By reopening the centre to the community we will improve the wellbeing of local people, create jobs and employment opportunities and help improve the local economy.”
The Centre when it reopens will provide a significant resource to local people including a 3G pitch, gym, games hall, and dance studio which will host a range of programmes delivered by the Foundation. Facilities will also be available to hire by local clubs and organisations.
