HENRY FIELDSON’S first career goal proved bittersweet for the Geordie defender as his header in the 39th minute wasn’t enough for The Spiders to take all three points against Dunfermline at the City Stadium. 

Despite the result, Queen’s can take a lot of encouragement going forward this season, the left-back says.

“It’s a good milestone for me, I got involved last year with a few assists but to get my first professional goal is a big achievement for me, obviously I’m happy with that but it’s a bit bittersweet that we didn’t get all three points.”

“We do have a lot of character, but we need to start grinding out results which we’ve struggled with this season. Hopefully the penny drops soon and then we can pick up some real good momentum.”

Henry also spoke about his position change. Signed as a centre-back, he’s moved to left-back since coming into the Spiders set-up, and the 20-year-old spoke about how he hopes to improve his game there going forward.

“I’m good at the defensive side of things, but getting in the final third is obviously a bit foreign to me. I’ve been working on that everyday, so it’s good that it’s paying off. 

“It was tough out there in the stormy conditions, but there wasn’t really much excuses because both teams have to play on it.”

The Spiders will be back playing, quite possibly in similarly damp conditions again, on Tuesday night when they take on Clyde FC in the re-arranged KDM Evolution Trophy match. 

The last-32 tie was postponed last week due to roof damage at The city Stadium caused by Storm Bram, but they will be hoping to get back to winning ways in the competition they reached the final of, last season.
