Join Us As We Make Some Magical New Memories” – Michael Doyle

Michael Doyle today issued a plea to the growing band of Queen’s Park followers … Join us as we make some magical new memories.

The club skipper spoke to the web team ahead of the first home game of the league season.

In this, the first of two special articles, he stressed how important it was for the players to have fans back in the ground supporting the team – and how the squad was determined to make Firhill a fortress that opposing teams didn’t want to visit.

Michael said: “It is so good to be back in front of the fans again and as a player it makes a huge difference to any game.

“I’ve always said that whichever club I am playing for, I am playing for the fans because first and foremost, it is their club.”

Michael added that while many of the players might not have grown up as Queen’s Park supporters, the minute they pull on the famous hooped strip they are totally committed to the cause and looking to do their very best for those in the stands.

The skipper also spoke of the importance of “homing” in on points.

He added: “I think at any level you will always look to make your home ground your fortress.

“We might not be playing at our natural home environment this season, but we need to make sure we adapt to that and ensure we do that quickly.

“Firhill is a pitch that will suit the way we want to play. And it’s as close a location as we could have got for the supporters. The fans are what make a ground a home ground, no matter where we are playing.”

“We could sit on the success of last season or even on the history of the club, but ultimately we need to move forward and ‘Making New Memories’ is a fantastic tag line for us. We are determined to do that.

“Come the end of the season, we want to have the memories of celebrating with our fans. We obviously didn’t get that opportunity last season and that is a driving factor for us to achieve our goals this season and to do it for the fans who have waited a long time to see us play.”

“We know and appreciate how tough the last 18 months has been for everyone but with restrictions easing and crowds returning we are relishing the opportunity to have our fans back in the stands. “

The second of Michael’s articles can be read in an extended preview of the Cove Rangers visit which will be published on Friday morning.
