Livingston 1 Queen’s Park 2 – CAS Under-19s Advanced Youth league

QUEEN’S PARK under-19s saw off an experienced Livingston side in a tight, competitive away match – which came with much learning as well as three points.

The Young Spiders fell behind after just one minute but battled back to take all three points thanks to goals from Alex Eguagie and a late winner from Caiden Wright.

The Lions included first-team players Josh Zimmerman, Shane Blaney and Cristian Montano with only Cole Goldie and Kyle Rodger having a taste of top team action in the visiting ranks.

The game was played at a high intensity, but the young Spiders more than stood up to the challenge and bounced back from their early concession.

Alex Eguagie converted the equaliser just nine minutes after falling behind, following good wing play from Daniel Edzii.

That’s how it stayed until deep into injury time but the latter stages became more stretched with each team having a go following the high-energy opening.

In the end a cross from Kyle Rodger found Caiden Wright and he brought down the supply and cleverly lifted the ball over the goalkeeper for the match-winner.

Coach Lee Mitchell said: “At times, I thought we panicked a little bit because of the pace Livingston had in their press and we were caught a few times taking too many touches. When we moved the ball with less touches and showed a bit more composure, we looked more like ourselves and had some really good passages of play.

“Joshua Zimmerman was a real threat for Livingston with his pace. It was another good learning experience for the boys to come up against that and find ways of dealing with that threat.

“We scored a good goal through Alex Eguagie after good work from Daniel Edzii down the left to make it 1-1 in the first half.

“Overall, I thought it was a really competitive game and a really good learning experience for the players, which is what we’re wanting. They showed they could match that level and, more importantly, showed the character and resilience they have as a group after conceding so early, getting themselves back into the game and then continuing to go right until the end to get the winner.”
