CONGRATULATIONS to Lucas Reid who has won our first ever Design a Pokemon competition in association with Victory Road Collectables.
Tasked with creating mini cartoon monster with a Queen’s Park theme, the Braidbar Primary pupil’s creation ‘Parky’ caught the eye of our judges including players, Spiders staff and experts from the trading card specialists on Letherby Drive.
Not only did P5 Lucas see his colourful creation reproduced as a trading card, he also landed a Pokemon goodie bag from Victory Road, VIP tickets to the Glasgow trading card show and a Queen’s Park shirt and scarf.
After picking up his prize with mum, dad and brother Mason, Lucas said: “I am so excited to win because I am a big Pokemon fan. I’m also looking forward to wearing my kit and coming to see Queen’s Park next season.”
His success also rubbed off on P5 teacher Laura Kerr who landed a southside restaurant voucher courtesy of Victory Road.
Mrs Kerr said: “My class are huge football fans and also love Pokémon. When I saw the Queen’s Park competition I knew immediately, they would want to be involved.
“My own son, Finlay, is also a big Queen’s Park fan so I showed them some photographs from the games he has been to.
“We spent a bit of time researching the club and the players. The children then looked at Pokémon characters and decided how they could turn the team into Pokémon!. They knew that they had to make sure the special skill and powers could link to the players and the club.
“Lucas loves drawing and designing and knew he wanted to include the black and white Queen’s Park colours to make it stand out.
“He decided on the name, “Parky,” as it sounded like a Pokémon but also linked to the club.
“Lucas is delighted to see his design made into a card and couldn’t believe that he won. Picking up his prizes is an amazing start to his summer holidays! Thank you Queen’s Park!”
The response to our first ever competition was over-whelming and the expanded prize haul included three runners-up in a very competitive creative contest.
Runners-up were Harris Hunter (Burnside Primary), Mahdiyd Igaz (Pollokshields Primary) and Finlay Duncan (Braidbar Primary).
Scott Morrison, owner of Victory Road Collectables, said: “What an awesome competition we had. Some of the drawings were really imaginative and shows how well the children know their Pokemon, and the number of entries was incredible.
“We look forward to seeing Lucas and his family at the Glasgow card show and really appreciate the talents of everyone who entered and made our first competition with Queen’s Park such a success.
“It was great to see so many of the local school children take part and love Pokemon as much as we do at Victory Road.”
The shop stocks a range of English and Japanese Pokémon and other TCG products as well as singles and graded cards and various Pokemon memorabilia.

“It has been great to see the business thrive on the club’s doorstep and we than k them for collaborating on this competition and as sponsors of our matchday mascots.
