The Spiders make the trip to Methill tomorrow to face bottom side East Fife at Bayview. We go there on the back of a hard fought point in difficult circumstances away to league leaders Cove Rangers last Saturday but our hosts also go into the game on the back of their own important result a week ago, a big three points from a 3-1 win away to Alloa Athletic.
Ahead of the game the club media team spoke to Director of Football, Marijn Beuker, to get his thoughts.
Marijn said: “Saturday is a game that we are looking forward to and we go there looking to win the game. The boys have had a good week in training, having had some time off at the start of the week as we prepare for a busy four weeks ahead.”
“The Peterhead game, along with upcoming Glasgow Cup ties means that we will have four consecutive matches on Tuesday’s. With that in mind, the players had some time off as we want to make sure they are as fresh both in the body and the head as possible.”
“We came back in to training Wednesday and have had three good days since and we are now ready for the match.”
“This is another opportunity for us to go there and look to play the game how we want it to be played. We are obviously looking to build on the points we picked up in both games last week and it is very important that we do that. Although it was four points picked up from the two games, there were two points that we didn’t get, and we now must looking forward to building on the things that we have been working on in order to try and pick up maximum points over the coming weeks.”
“We look forward to this game, and a busy few weeks ahead and we have a good group of players who will all be ready to play as and when they are required. We know that if we can start to win more games everyone naturally becomes happier and some things just start to take care of themselves. That is where we want to be.”
“In terms of the squad it will be as similar group of players to what we had available at Cove Rangers last Saturday. We will be without Jai Quitongo for this game however Luca Connell, who missed out through injury last week, is fit again and available for selection if required. On another note, we were pleased to have Will Bayham back in training with us on Thursday and Friday this week. Will had suffered an injury earlier in the season and it was a complex one which we have had to be cautious about. From his perspective and from ours it’s good to see him back in training but given how long he has been out, we will need to put a programme in place that will assist him to rebuild his fitness and we need to be conscious that it could be some time before he reaches the levels of fitness that will make him available for selection again.”
