With excitement building ahead of the new campaign The Spiders make a start to the competitive action this afternoon with a trip to Methill to face East Fife in Group G of the Viaplay Cup.
ROBIN VELDMAN’S THOUGHTS
“First of all I want to say how happy I am to be at the club and want to acknowledge the very warm welcome I have had from the staff, players and supporters so far. I am excited to get to work now that all the off field formalities have been completed and for me it is about analysing everything and knowing exactly where we are. I have a good idea what the squad is capable of and as a player and staff group, we are really enjoying the build up to the season starting.”
“There has been a lot of hard work put in already, mainly focussing on our style of play and our habits, both on and off the pitch. It is very important that there is a real togetherness on and off the pitch, and everyone is buying into this. We know that with togetherness and a good plan, that will make us feel even stronger and that is a great foundation for us to go and perform.”
“In terms of the style of play we are looking to implement, that is exciting. When we look at the development in the style in how we want to build our play, how we want to press, how we want to create chances, we also look at the qualities of the players as individuals in order to maximise everyones performance within that style.”
“Despite it still being very early in the season, we are all looking forward to the start of the competitive matches. We will still be looking at all the very small details and what we need to continue to develop and grow as we go into the season but the competitive nature of the matches coming up is very good for allowing us to do that. The players know that to be a starter they need to be very competitive in training and these are the moments they have to show themselves to the staff.”
“We are relishing the challenge that awaits us against East Fife and we will give them all of the respect they deserve. For us, our plan will focus on our style of play and using the player’s qualities to implement that . It’s the first time the players will do this in a competitive manner so we are looking forward to seeing how that goes.”

- The stadium is a no smoking stadium – pass outs for smokers at halftime will be available.
- The bar at the stadium will be open pre and post match to both sets of supporters.
- No surfing flags are permitted.
- Flags on 1.2 metre canes must be fire retardant.
- Supporters may be asked to be searched before entering the stadium.
- Supporters parking at the stadium is available and will be under the direction of stewards.
