It’s a Glasgow derby on the cards at Firhill this afternoon as the Spiders make the short trip across the city to face league leaders Partick Thistle.
Ahead of the game Owen Coyle gave his thoughts to the club media team, saying: “It goes without saying but we are all looking forward to it. We go back to Firhill which is a venue we know very well from last season and there is the added element of it being a Glasgow derby as well.”
“It’ll be a tough test against what we know is a very good team but we have already beat Thistle this season so we have nothing to fear. We do however know how well we had to play on that occasion and we are under no illusions that we will need to be at our best again to take something from the game.”
“We all want to play against the best teams in the league and tomorrow is one of those occasions. We’ll be up against a side that are very experience at this level and they are where they are in the league on merit. Ian has a good squad of players which he has added to very well this season and with that we expected from the outset that they would be at the business end of the league.”
“We know the importance of being at our best and reaching the standards that we have show ourselves to be capable of. We know and have proved that if we do that, we can go toe to toe with the best teams in this league.”
“The table already shows just how tight things will be in this division and whilst I would expect the likes of Dundee and Thistle to remain at the top end of the table throughout, everyone else will feel they have a right good chance.”
“In terms of ourselves though, we need to make sure we get back to the levels we have shown, back to winning games, to scoring goals and playing that style of football we want to be playing. We have had a few injuries and it’ll be beneficial when those are in the past. We have Charlie Fox working towards a return and we’ve also had concerns about Grant Savoury’s hand injury in recent weeks, which we will continue to keep an eye on but we know that’s just part and parcel of what we need to deal with.”
