Tonight the wee Spiders take on Aberdeen, in the fourth round of the Scottish Youth Cup, at Lochinch. Kick off at 7:00pm.
Queen’s Park progressed to the fourth round by way of beating Dunipace United 7-0 in the second round, followed by a penalties win over Greenock Morton in the third round.
Aberdeen, as finalists in the competition last season, entered the competition in the third round where they disposed of Kilwinning Rangers 5-1.
Queen’s have already played Aberdeen this season , losing 3-2 in CAS Elite League at Lochinch in July.
Head coach Charley King commented: “This is a game we are really looking forward to. Aberdeen are probably as tough a draw as it gets. They won the CAS Elite League last year and got to the final of the Scottish Youth Cup as well. This season Aberdeen are also gaining experience playing in the UEFA Youth League.
“We played Aberdeen at Lochinch in the league in July and although we eventually lost 3-2, we were leading up until the 87th minute. So it could be a very close game.
“We have a very young squad, with most of them able to play Under 18 football again next year. I’m very pleased with the development of the boys so far this season. We have had some great results. Beating Greenock Morton in the last round was especially pleasing as they are top of the Performance League at the moment.
“We’ll need to be at the top of our game to beat Aberdeen, but it’ll be a great experience for the boys and I’m sure it will be a great game”
Captain Leo Fisher said: “It’s a great opportunity to make a big statement by putting out one of last year’s finalists. We’ve grown a lot as a team since the win over Morton and I believe we have more than enough quality to be able to compete and cause Aberdeen real problems.”
