Match Preview: Queen’s Park v Cove Rangers

It’s Super Sunday in League 1 this afternoon as leaders Cove Rangers make the long journey south. With Paul Hartley’s side favourites for the title and the Spiders looking to cement a play-off spot there is everything to play for in this one.

Ahead of the game the club media team spoke to First Team Coach, John Potter, to get his thoughts. John said: “This is one that we are really looking forward to and it’s good to be going in to it on the back of last week’s win at home to Clyde. We know Cove Rangers are a very good side, they are top of the league for a reason, however we’ve done out homework on them and we go into it confident with what we have.

“We are obviously and looking to build on the three points from last Saturday and although we know it will be a difficult game against a side who haven’t been beaten in some time. We know we have what it takes to make it a very difficult game for them as well.”

“As well as being pleased with the victory last week we were also very pleased to have kept a clean sheet. We feel that is something we should have had more in of recently, there’s been a disappointment that we have had some good defensive performances and lost still managed to concede. We now want to kick on from last week as a team and we know we will need to be both good at the back and pose a threat going forward if we want to win this one.”

“Our aspirations are clearly to finish in a play-off spot and to do that we clearly need to be winning games. If we are doing that, confidence is high, we will give ourselves every opportunity to get there. It’s also important that if we are to achieve that we finish the season as strongly as possible and we will face that hurdle when it comes.”

On the injury front John confirmed that there are some niggling injuries to contend with stating: “Overall I think we are in a good position with the squad. There are some niggles and we’ll see what happens on the day with those players but we also have guys like Simon Murray and Lee Kilday returning to the squad in recent weeks which gives us and the players themselves a boost. We are at a stage in the season where in an ideal world you want a full squad available but we know that whoever plays, has the ability to do a job.”
