Match Preview: Queen’s Park v East Fife

It’s our penultimate league home game of the season this afternoon as East Fife make the journey Firhill with plenty at stake at both ends of the table. The Spiders will be looking to build on a positive performance against league leaders Cove Rangers last week as the quest to cement a play-off spot continues while the visitors currently sit bottom of the pile in desperate need of a win if they are to have any chance of closing the gap on ninth placed Dumbarton.

Ahead of the game First Team Coach, John Potter, gave his thoughts to the club media team.

John said: “This is one which we are looking forward to on the back of a very good week in training. We also managed to get a bounce game in earlier in the week which was a great opportunity to get important minutes in to some boys who are coming back from injury. Overall its been a positive week and it sets us up well for Saturday’s game.”

“We have done our usual analysis on last week’s game and despite the disappointment of the late equaliser, there are so many positives to take from the game. Its important that we look to build on the performance and the things we have done well last week, and over the last few games. If we can repeat those levels then Saturday is a game that we can go and win. “

“We have the players at our disposal that can hurt the opposition and find the back of the net and it’s important that we work hard to bring that all together and be more clinical in front of goal. If we play to our strengths we know we will create chances and we hope we will take some of them.
We’re obviously at the business end of the season and it’s important that we look to finish as strongly as possible. We want that to start with a win against East Fife but we know that won’t be easy. East Fife are fighting for their survival but for us it’s important we focus only on ourselves and what we do in the game.”

“The play-off spot is within our grasp but we know that nothing is ever easy in football and nothing is given to you. We need to go out there and get the results that secure that spot. We obviously want to do that as soon as possible and we could take a massive step forward in that regard with a win on Saturday.”

On the injury front John confirmed that the squad available will be very similar to that which faced Cove Rangers last Saturday, stating: “We will have Peter Grant back from suspension but other than that, there won’t be too much change to the squad. Liam Brown, Jack Thomson and Lewis Moore are all edging closer to a return and we would hope to be able to see them back over the coming weeks.”
