Happy New Year! Queen’s Park will come up against familiar opponents when they make the short trip to Firhill on Tuesday to face Partick Thistle.
It will be the eighth time the clubs have faced each other since January 1, 2023, and the tenth time since the start of last season, with the Spiders out to rack up a fourth success and a first since last January.
Queen’s last three-point haul in Maryhill came in a 4-0 success in October 22 when ex-Jag Tommy Robson opened the scoring in the first half before Stephen Eze netted with a header and Josh McPake added a double.
Remarkably this will be Queen’s Park’s fifth trip to Thistle since that day.
Paul Nuijten, who celebrated both his birthday and Hogmanay for the first time in Scotland on Monday, is looking for his side to move on quickly from the injury time loss to Airdrieonians on Saturday.

The cinch Championship so far
Queen’s Park started 2023 with a 2-0 win over Partick Thistle that took them to the top of the Championship however Saturday’s late loss to Airdrieonians kept the Spiders at the opposite end of the table.
Wins over Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Arbroath (twice) have been secured however one of Queen’s Park’s best performances came in a 2-2 draw with Partick Thistle in October and a repeat of that display, coupled with a win, would be enjoyed just as much as last January’s result.
Four wins in five Championship games moved Kris Doolan’s team up into a play-off place however a draw with Inverness and a 3-0 defeat from Dundee United on Friday has stalled the Jags’ attack on the top two of Raith Rovers and Dundee United.
Brian Graham is their top goalscorer with nine Championship goals which is two more than Ruari Paton has bagged for Queen’s.
