Cathkin Primary School undertake their homework for Tickets for Schools Programme

Queen’s Park are delighted to thank Cathkin Primary School for their support of two of the initiatives Scotland’s oldest football club is running to build closer links in their local community.

Fifty pupils from Cathkin are attending Saturday’s cinch Championship game against Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Hampden as part of the club’s ‘Tickets for Schools’ Programme with everyone from the Burnside Road school taking part in the ‘Design a Christmas Card’ competition.

The ‘Design a Christmas Card’ competition was recently launched by Will Tizzard, along with club sponsors Laurie Ross, and Will visited Cathkin this week to hand over the Match Tickets, as well as scarves and t-shirts, and the defender was delighted to learn that every child is designing a card.

Will said: “When the Christmas Card competition was announced I knew from my visit to Laurie Ross that it was a big event locally however I did not realise how big it is. Everyone at Cathkin from Primary 1 to Primary 7 is taking part, and some of them are doing it as their homework, which means that hundreds of their cards will be in the windows of the Laurie Ross office.

“It is great that the school is doing so much to support it.

The pupils who are coming along to Saturday’s game gave Will an in-depth grilling during a Question-and-Answer Session with the former Southampton player adding: “I had to be on my toes as I had no idea what the questions were going to be. The children are really enthusiastic about the ‘Tickets for Schools’ programme and coming along to the game.

“As part of the programme I will go back to the school over the next couple of weeks to discuss how they enjoyed it and hopefully we will have added some more fans.”
