MICHAEL RUTH is sticking with the Spiders and has extended his second spell with Queen’s Park.
The striker re-joined his first senior club last summer and scored the opening and closing goals in the the league campaign which saw Sean Crighton’s side finish sixth in the William Hill Championship.
Ruth also spent almost six months on the sidelines with a hip injury before returning to the team – and the scoresheet – with crucial goals against Airdrie, Ayr United and Partick Thistle in the latter stages of the season.
That helped the striker to the enviable record of never tasting defeat in any match where he found the net.
First-team manager Sean Crighton was pleased to have recruited last season’s number nine back for this season’s squad.
He said: “It was an easy decision to bring Michael back, even though I don’t think we saw the best of him due to his injury last season.
“Either side of it he brought goals to the team and showed what a threat he can be.
“I know Michael will score goals again for Queen’s Park again next season and so do other clubs. He has a proven goal record and had interest from elsewhere – but I’m delighted he has decided to stay and bolster our front-line because I think we will have different options up front.”
Michael said: “Everyone you speak to from the club last season will tell you what a good environment this was to work in and play in.
“To get signed up again is something I’m delighted to do. Last season was a bit of a slow start for me – getting in the team and then being injured and out for a while but now I’m really looking forward to getting a few tough weeks hard work in pre-season and really going for it so we’re feeling good at the season’s start.”
