The Spiders head north to Links Park, for the first time in over five and a half years, to take on second placed Montrose this afternoon. Stewart Petrie’s are five points ahead of the Spiders having played a game more and with both sides going in to the game on the back of important victories it has the makings of a Christmas cracker.
Ahead of the game the media team caught up with gaffer Laurie Ellis to get his thoughts.
Laurie said: “With a fortnight having passed since our last game it’s safe to say we are all keen to get going and this is a game that we are really looking forward to. We know how difficult it will be. Montrose are going well, they are deservedly well placed in the league and they have a squad with plenty of quality and experience in it.”
“On the back of the win against Falkirk a fortnight ago we were very much ready for the Airdrie game last week but the circumstances that led to the call off are an example of the difficulties that everyone is facing at the moment. No one wants to find out in the lead up to a game that it is off but we fully understand the circumstance we are all operating in at the moment and we all need to be ready to adapt to situations like this when they arise.”
“That is now in the past though and our focus is fully on tomorrow’s trip to Links Park, a very tough venue for all teams to go to. The boys can and will take the momentum from the win a fortnight ago in to this one but know that they need to be at their best from start to finish in order to take something from the game.”
“While we are really looking forward to this one, we know Montrose will be as well on the back of good wins against Airdrie and Dumbarton, so it has the makings of a good game.”
On the injury front Laurie played his cards close to his chest, saying: “We are carrying some niggling injuries within the squad however the boys that are available are really looking forward to the challenge.”

For those intending to travel to Montrose this afternoon the club would like to highlight the following:
Before setting off – please take a lateral flow test and record the result. Only travel if you are negative and are displaying no symptoms. If you test positive, do not travel, book an NHS PCR test as soon as possible.
Travelling by car – ensure there are no more than three households represented in the car. Wear a face covering during the journey and make sure the car is well ventilated – opening the window slightly for 10 minutes will flush the car’s air sufficiently.
Travelling by bus or train – ensure you use any vacant seats on the bus/train to socially distance where at all possible. Wear a face covering for the duration of the journey.
In the stadium – follow good hand hygiene and be aware of touch points such as concession stands, toilets etc. Make use of the various hand sanitizer points which are located around the stadium. Montrose FC encourage the use of face coverings while in the stadium, particularly at busy areas or while queuing. If you feel unwell contact a steward who will get first aid personnel to attend and advise.
Sunday morning – following your visit to Links Park, please take a lateral flow test and record the result.
