Hot on the heels of a hard fought three points at Borough Briggs on Saturday Ray McKinnon’s men are back in action on tonight as Championship side Queen of the South come calling in the Betfred Cup. The Spiders will be hoping for a repeat of the last time the sides met in cup action when we ran out 2-1 winners courtesy of a double from Salim Kouider-Aïssa at Palmerston, but that will be no easy achievement against a side why plo their trade two tiers above.
Ahead of the match the club media team caught up with the gaffer to get his thoughts. Ray said: “We are expecting a real test in what we know will be a very difficult match. Queen of the South are a strong Championship side and posses some real quality players in guys like Stephen Dobbie but it’s a game that we are very much looking forward to.
“It’s good to be back at Hampden for only the second time this season having been on the road so much in the opening weeks of the campaign, and on the back of our good start in the league we go into the game in a very positive frame of mind. We will look to make changes to the starting eleven to make best use of the squad, and it’s likely that those who didn’t start on Saturday, including a couple of younger members of the squad who didn’t travel, will come in.
“We want to utilise the squad and although it is always dangerous to change a winning team, it is important that the guys who haven’t featured as much as they have liked, get that opportunity. That’s what the squad is for and it’s important that we have the numbers that allow us to make the changes as we did on Saturday and as we will do this week.”
