Queen's Park 2 Gartcairn 0 - Match Report
Queen’s Park extended their winning run to 3 on Sunday as they beat Gartcairn WFC 2-0 at Kirkintilloch CSC in matchday 4 of the Scottish Power Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 (SWPL2) season.
Head coach, Iain Robinson, made 2 changes to the starting 11 who beat St Johnstone, with Darcy Molley stepping into the backline and Charlize McFadyen making her first start of the season.
Queen’s Park wasted no time in taking the lead. Morgan Hay found space on the right wing and produced a stunning lobbed strike which evaded Gartcairn goalie, Lucy Inman, before dropping into the far corner.
It was Gartcairn who looked the more threatening side over the next 20 minutes, but some good positioning from Jasmine McPhee stopped the visitors from finding a leveller.
Abby Callaghan came close to doubling The Spiders’ lead in the 29th minute. Charlize did brilliantly to beat her marker on the left wing before cutting inside and playing Callaghan through, but her close-range strike flew just wide of the top corner.
4 minutes from the break, Ellie Kane came close to opening her account for the day. A brilliant lobbed through ball from Emma Craig put Ellie in a one-on-one with the keeper, but her strike was straight at Inman who made the catch.

Gartcairn came out strong in the second half and worked a chance in the 48th minute, but McPhee was fearless in coming out and made the save at Sophie Timlin’s feet.
Ellie Kane scoring from free-kicks has become a regular sight in Kirkintilloch, and in the 56th minute, she came agonisingly close to doing it again. Having won a free-kick on the edge of the box, the striker stepped up and hit a rocket of a strike over the wall, but Inman got the slightest of touches to brilliantly tip the ball onto the crossbar.
Full of confidence after her chance earlier in the half, Timlin worked a long-range effort, but Jasmine McPhee made a brilliant diving catch to keep the clean sheet alive.
With 15 minutes left to play, Jemma McQuillan sealed the win. A cross from Ellie Kane found Jemma at the back post who delivered a powerful downward header to beat the keeper.
With virtually the last play of the game, Gartcairn swung in a corner to the near post, but the resulting header came off the woodwork and went behind.

A 3rd consecutive win and a 2nd clean sheet in the last 3 outings sees Queen’s Park move up to 3rd in the league, just 1 point behind leaders Spartans.
