Queen’s Park 2 Boroughmuir Thistle 1

First half goals by Ellie Kane and Abby Callaghan, yesterday against Boroughmuir Thistle at New Tinto Park, made it three wins in a row for the Spiders.

Queen’s were looking to build on their two recent wins against Kilmarnock and St Johnstone.

Boroughmur Thistle were looking to bounce back after a recent dip in form.

Head coach Craig Joyce made two changes to the side that beat St Johnstone two weeks ago. Ellie Kane and Lia Tweedie taking the place of Jaya Gill and Sarah MacLeod.

Bright sunshine and no wind greeted the players to the pitch. Boroughmuir were 3-1 winners at Meadowbank in August the last time the two sides met.

Queen’s started very positively when, in the second minute, Abbi McDonald made a run down the left wing. Abby played the ball back to Taylor Davis who then passed to Nicole Cairney. Nicole beat a defender and had a shot from the edge of the box.

Two minutes later a fast break, down the left wing by Boroughmuir’s Beth Macleod brought out a superb save by Lauren Grant. Beth crossed the rebound ball into the Queen’s box and Sydney Hinchcliffe headed over when it looked like it was easier to score.

In the eleventh minute Queen’s came close. A great through ball by Nicole Cairney put Abby Callaghan through on goal. Abby shot across the keeper but Kelli Hanman blocked Abby’s shot.

The second half didn’t have the fluidity of the first and turned into a midfield scrap with few chances created by either side.

In the 50th minute Queen’s made their first substitution when Lauren Ray had to go off after she turned her angle in a challenge. Sarah Macleod came on.

In the 56th minute Queen’s Replaced Lia Tweedie with Jaya Gill.

In the 58th minute Sarah MacLead intercepted a Boroughmuir pass, played the ball to Abby Callaghan who in turn played in Lia Tweedie. Lia struck the ball first time but sent it over the bar.

In the 70th minute Abby Callaghan picked up the ball on the halfway line, turned and played a through ball for Jaya Gill to run onto. Jaya took one touch and hit a great strike which brought out an equally great save for the Boroughmuir keeper.
