Two second half goals gave Queen's Park B all three points against Queen of the South yesterday at Lochinch and moved the Spiders to the top of the SPFL Reserve League.
Max Thompson, making his competitive debut for Queen’s, opened the scoring in the 20th minute with Josh Hinds scoring the second and creating the third for Lennon Connolly in the second half.
Queen’s kicked off facing the sun and a strong wind. The opening period saw neither team in charge with both sides assessing the other. Queen of the South were using the wind at their back to get the ball beyond the Queen’s back line and the Spiders were using the width of the park to stretch the Doonhamers.
The first real chance came in the 17th minute when Timam Scott drove down the right wing, turned inside and fired off a low shot from the edge of the box which brought out a fine save by Jay Hogarth, in goal for the Dumfries side.
Three minutes later Queen’s took the lead. Seb Drozd received the ball wide left, cut inside and moved the ball to Timam Scott. Timam took the ball to the edge of the Queen of the South box and threaded the ball between two defenders for MAX THOMPSON to hit the ball, first time, across the keeper, into the far corner of the net.
Queen of the South responded almost immediately with Brennan Dickson through on goal, but Magnus MacKenzie doing enough to force his shot wide.
Both sides continued to battle with Josh Hinds and Timam Scott coming close with shots from wide angles.
In the 36th minute Seb Drozd raced past three defenders and hit a low shot from 14 yards out only to see the Dumfries keeper pull off a superb stop.
Just when it looked like Queen’s would go in at the interval 1-0 up Queen of the South equalised when DICKENSON rose above the Spiders defence to head in a corner for the right.

Queen’s pushed for a second goal right from the kick off, putting the Doonhamers goal under pressure. That pressure was rewarded in the 51st minute with a superb strike by JOSH HINDS. A long diagonal ball was played to Josh, wide left. He cut inside and fired an unsavable shot into the roof of the net from just inside the box.
The Spiders added a third in the 62nd minute when Josh Hinds won the ball inside the Queen of the South box, moved wide, turned back and laid the ball for LENNON CONNOLLY to step onto and hit home from 16 yards out.
Max Fiddes almost added a fourth in the final minute when he met a cross to the back post but his header was cleared from the line by an in-rushing defender.
