Queen’s Park 4 Hamilton Academical 1

Lucas McCormick hit a hat-trick as Young Queen’s Park defeated Hamilton Academical 4-1 at Lochinch in a SPFL Reserve League meeting. Lewis Moore continued to work his way back to full fitness with a start against the Accies with Liam Brown also making his return after a spell out with Lewis Reid skippering the side.

Young Queen’s Park made a lightning quick start with McCORMICK finding the net within the first 60 seconds. Lennon Connolly and Calum Biggar combined and when Josh Lane produced a fine stop to keep out a low drive McCormick dived full length to head home from six yards.

Hamilton looked to hit back quickly and Gravine Gwamba Lo Kalala had an opening at the back post on three minutes however he fired over.

With 11 minutes gone Cameron Bruce sped away on the left and reached the by-line where he cut the ball back for Timam Scott with the visiting defence just scrambling the ball away before the right-sided attacker could convert.

On 20 minutes it was 2-0 when a corner was played to Connolly who worked his way towards the Accies goal only to be crowded out as he looked to shoot. SCOTT took over and showed his dribbling skills as he side-stepped his way past two defenders before slotting in from close range.

The visitors did hit back quickly this time with ex-Spider Dario Zanatta heading home a Gabriel Forsyth free-kick from the left.

On 28 minutes Bruce shot just over the bar after what looked to be a trip on Scott in the box had gone unpunished.

Jacques Heraghty made a fine low diving stop from Forsyth five minutes with the break with the shot-stopper relieved when a Liam Morgan header for Accies was ruled out for a push right on half-time.

Young Queen’s Park made another fast start with the second half only three minutes old when skill from Scott created space for a shot that Lane did well to clutch.

On 51 minutes McCormick created danger on the left and his driven cross was whacked against his own bar by Christopher Neeson however a minute later it was 3-1.

It was Scott’s turn to create danger on the right and after jinking his way to the by-line his low pass was swept into the net from close range by McCORMICK.

Captain Reid was just off-target with a header before more trickery from Scott saw him swap passes and get a view of the Hamilton goal before being crowded out.

McCormick and Scott combined again with quarter of an hour left with the woodwork keeping out Scott’s shot after a surging run on the left by his team-mate.

McCORMICK completed his treble on 82 minutes with a well-worked fourth goal with Andrew Lind threading a pass behind the Accies rear-guard for Bruce to run clear with the defender’s pass forced home from six yards.
