Queen’s Park 4 Ross County 2

A first half brace by Lucas McCormick, followed by second half goals by Josh Howe and Joe Cassidy gave Queen's all three points in their first home game of the new CAS Under 18 Performance Level season.

Queen’s played their third CAS (Club Academy Scotland) Performance Level League game of the season, against Ross County, at Lochinch yesterday afternoon.

It was one win and one defeat for the young Spiders so far in the League. A 3-2 win away to St Johnstone in the opening game followed by a 4-1 defeat by Partick Thistle last Friday night at Petershill.

Light rain was falling as both sides took to the pitch. Fingers crossed the torrential rain which fell an hour ago would not return.

Queen’s first attack of the game came from a corner in the third minute. A well worked move saw the ball played to Jojo Smith, at the edge of the Ross County box. Unfortunately his shot narrowly missed the bar.

Queen’s moved the ball around the park with confidence in the opening period, without really testing the highland defence. The occasional mis-played pass and slip-up allowed the Ross County to break into the Queen’s defence and test Liam Russell in goal.

In the ninth minute a Timam Scott cross from the right was met by Lucas McCormick and his resultant shot brought out a fine save by the Ross County keeper.

In the 21st minute Queen’s got caught in possession coming out of defence. The Ross County number 14 recovered the ball, drove towards goal and placed the ball across Liam Russell into the far corner of the net from 16 yards out.

Four minutes later Queen’s drew level when after an attack by Luke Lickrish down the left the ball was cut back to LUCAS MCCORMICK who made no mistake smashing the ball home from eight yards out.

Ross County take the lead, again

Three minutes from half time Queen’s equalised when LUCAS MCCORMICK slotted the ball home from 20 yards out after good build up play down the left again by Luke Lickrish.

Half time: Queen’s Park 2 Ross County 2

Queen’s upped their pace and movement at the start of the second half and most of the game was now being played inside the Ross County half.

Despite having most of the possession and a number of scoring opportunities, it wasn’t until the 66th minute that Queen’s took the lead, and it was a goal well worth waiting for.

After superb build up play JOSH HOWE picked the ball up 20 yards out, took two steps into the box and hit an unstoppable shot across the keeper into the far corner of the net. A well worked and well executed goal.
