Queen’s Park has signed Marcel Oakley on loan until the end of the season. The 20 year-old wing back joins the club from Birmingham City.
Marcel signed a two-year scholarship with Birmingham City in 2019. He played at Under-18 and Under-23 level before signing his first professional deal with the Blues in July 2021.
Marcel made his senior Blues debut, aged 18, in August 2021, scoring the only goal of the game and winning man of the match in a first round Carabao Cup victory over Colchester United.
Marcel spent the first half of season 2022/23 on loan to Arbroath.
Marcel Oakley: ‘It’s a great club with a great setup and I can’t wait to get started’
“I’m over the moon to be here. It’s a great club with a great setup and I can’t wait to get started. I am looking forward to helping the team achieve their goal of trying to gain promotion into the premiership.”
Marijn Beuker: ‘He is also strong on the ball and brings attacking impulses.’
“We wanted to strengthen ourselves with a right wing back. With the arrival of Marcel, we have added a really strong option. Marcel is a player who fits our way of playing. Apart from his defensive qualities, he is also strong on the ball and brings attacking impulses. He has proven to have creative ability, which – especially as a wing back – is an extra weapon.”
Owen Coyle: ‘A talented young player who is quick and loves to get forward’
“Marcel is a talented young player who is quick and loves to get forward. But equally he has very good defensive qualities. We look forward to seeing him continue his development with us.”
