Queen’s Park add two new signings to under-19s squad

QUEEN’S PARK FC is delighted to welcome Ollie Fisher and Archie Aitchison to our under-19s set-up.

Centre-back Ollie joins from Morton while Archie spent last season as third-choice goalkeeper at Annan Athletic in League Two.

Both have already featured for the young Spiders squad and will hope to be involved tomorrow (Thursday) when Edinburgh City visit Lochinch.

Coach Charley King said: “Ollie is a player I have been aware of for a while having come up against him while he was with Morton. He was also involved in the Scotland Schools’ set-up last year.

“He has always been someone we’ve looked on as a proper defender so when he became available he was someone we were immediately interested in.

“He played as a trialist earlier in pre-season and I’m pleased he has joined us.

“Ollie is settling in well and we can tell he has come from a good footballing and defensive background and it’s now a case of him getting used to the way and style we play at Queen’s Park.”

On Archie Charley added: “Goalkeeper was a position we had ear-marked to strengthen and Archie jumped at the chance to come in full-time after his time at Annan where he was on the fringes of the first-team squad.

“Like Ollie he has been working hard to learn our style and get used to the way we play with the ball at his feet.”

In terms of recruitment King also believes his squad is pretty much complete now Ollie and Archie are in. “We are still keeping ours eyes open to anyone who might become available though,” he added.

That leaves the under-19s with a small core squad of 11 – but one that is supplemented by eligible players already working with the first-team and under-17s ready to make the step up the CAS ladder.

Charley added: “We are pretty happy with what we have got and the start we have made to this season. The results have been positive and the performances in pre-season were encouraging too.

“We have players who will play with the first-team and ourselves and the pathway is also open for under-17s to play for us too which is what we are looking for.”

The club’s two Advanced Youth teams will both face Edinburgh City this week.

The under-19s game, scheduled for Meadowbank on Tuesday has been reversed and will now be played at Lochinch on Thursday at 7pm. Lee Mitchell’s under-17s are also at home to the capital city side, on Friday, with a 6pm start at Lochinch.
