MARYHILL is the stage for Queen’s Park’s last hurrah in the William Hill Championship this season.
Having been widely tipped for the drop and 10th place, Sean Crighton’s squad and staff have come together to defy their critics and could even finish as high as fifth with a win in north Glasgow.
That’s if results elsewhere fall in the Spiders’ favour too but there is much at stake at the bottom end of the league table – though no jeopardy for Queen’s Park after safety was assured with two games to spare.
Eighth place – a finish that would match last season and the one before – is still possible though and Crighton is determined to finish on a high an d with a ranking to match the feelgood factor around The city Stadium this season.

The Season so far...
Partick Thistle are guaranteed a second-placed finish in the William Hill Championship before a ball is kicked on matchday 36.
After a heavy defeat on the opening day of the season to eventual champions St Johnstone, Mark Wilson’s side launched a title bid of their own, finishing runners-up and firmly in the post-season mix.
Along the way they have won Glasgow derbies home and away – the November date marred by a horrific injury to Charlie Fox, and ending in a heavy defeat for the shell-shocked Spiders at The Wyre Stadium.
Meeting again during the festive period the teams fought out an entertaining 2-2 draw with captain Euan Murray claiming a point for his side with a late goal and customary knee-slide celebration.
While Thistle don’t have any league status to play for on Friday night, Sean Crighton’s side could yet take fifth place and further dent the pre-season pessimism from predictors around the country – although results could also send the Spiders eighth in a final place finish to match both the previous two seasons.
The first-team manager is determined to end a positive season on a high, with a league placing to match the feel-good factor at The city Stadium.
