Rocco Friel joins The Spiders
QUEEN’S PARK FC is delighted to announce the loan signing of Scotland under-19 international Rocco Friel.
The Scottish defender joins the Spiders from Queen’s Park Rangers on a deal until January and goes straight into the first-team squad selection pool for tomorrow’s match against Ayr United at Somerset Park.
Southsider Rocco is an SFA Performance School graduate and came through the ranks at Rangers then switched to Hearts’ Academy for three years.
He joined the Rs last summer and featured regularly for the west London club’s development squad last season and is now looking forward to first-team experience within Sean Crighton’s squad.
Rocco said: “I’m excited to be joining Queen’s Park and look forward to competing for a first-team place.
“I’ve loved my time at QPR so far and learned a lot, but now my next step is the physical side of mens’ football.
“I played 30 times for the under-23s last season and now feel I am ready to pick up some valuable experience in a first-team environment.
“I’m raring to go and add that experience to my game.
“I’ve looked around the facilities and already know Lochinch from playing here as opposition in the past and I’m really looking forward to this opportunity.”
Head coach Sean Crighton is delighted to add the 18-year-old to his squad.
He said: “Rocco is a boy I know well. The SFA Performance School is a really good programme for young players and Rocco has kicked on since our time at Holyrood.
“He is a player who can definitely get up and down the pitch from the role on the right side of defence.
“He knows a lot of the boys already and has settled in great. The squad has made him feel welcome and he’s slotted in really nicely to his first couple of sessions.”
