SPIDERS boss Sean Crighton is proud of his “tight-knit” group defying the pre-season predictions of a bottom placed finish.
A 1-0 win over Ross County via Aidan Connolly’s header means Queen’s Park can’t finish tenth in the William Hill Championship.
The southsiders are currently fifth in the second tier with four games to play – but could yet finish ninth or fourth in this congested league table.
But the proud head coach said: “It’s not job done until it’s mathematically certain, but for me this [result] is a big one for us because I genuinely believe that everybody had us relegated [at the beginning of the season] and I’m really proud of my group because that was the one thing I said to them – we need to show everybody.
“They’ve certainly done that.”
He added: “I had belief in what I was doing with my group, I had belief in my group and I also had belief in the guys I was bringing in in January. When we lost Josh (Fowler) everybody again wrote us off, then we lost to Rangers and everybody writes you off.
“So, I’m so proud of them because I knew that wasn’t going to define us and I did say that at the time – it’s been no surprise to me that my group’s gone on the run we have.”
Crighton went on to talk about the character and togetherness of this group of players as exciting for the future.
He said: “We’ve got a really tight knit thing going on at Queen’s Park right now and as I said it’s for me an exciting group as well because there’s a lot of young ones in there as well.”
The head coach is now looking ahead to our next game against Raith Rovers as The Spiders look to take a further step to guarantee safety.
