Queen’s Park can today confirm the signing of 33-year-old midfielder Michael McGlinchey.
Michael started his professional career with Celtic before signing for Central Coast Mariners in Australia’s A League in July 2009. A brief loan spell with Vegalta Sendai in Japan’s J1 league followed before he returned to the Mariners in June 2014. That July he moved to Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand where enjoyed a 4-year stint making over 80 appearances, scoring 11 goals and 16 assists. Michael returned once again to the Mariners in July 2018 and has made over 160 appearances in his various spells with the club.
Capped for Scotland at U19 and U21 level, Michael also has over 50 caps for New Zealand, having made his international debut against Jordan in September 2009.
Head Coach Ray McKinnon said: “We are delighted to have Michael on board. He will add real quality and experience to the squad and that experience is reflected in the number of caps he has for New Zealand. Michael’s experience can only be of benefit to those around him in the squad. He has some work to do to get fully up to speed but we hope to have him available for selection sooner rather than later.”
Speaking to the club media team Michael said “It feels great to have joined the club and I’m very happy to be here. The boys have made me feel really welcome. It’s evident that we have some quality players here and have high ambitions. From my perspective I want to do my best for the club when given the opportunity.”
Welcome to Queen’s Park, Michael!
