The Spiders are back on the road this Saturday as Ray McKinnon takes his side south to face Stranraer. Queen’s go into the match looking to build on last weekend’s victory over Albion Rovers at Hampden where an early double from Will Baynham secured the points despite a spirited second half performance from the visitors. The defence, and in particular Willie Muir, will also be looking to build on the two clean sheets secured in our opening two league fixtures.
With Stevie Farrell’s side in search of their first competitive win of the season and The Blues squad containing no fewer than four former Spiders, we will hopefully be in for a entertaining afternoon at Stair Park.
Ahead of the game the manager spoke to the club media team to give his thoughts and he said: “We go into the game in a good frame of mind and very much looking to take the three points from it. We know that won’t be easy and expect a difficult match at what is normally a tough venue for most teams to go to.
First and foremost I’m looking to see an improvement in the performance from last week and for us to play as well as we can for as long as possible in the game. If we do, that the results will come and ultimately we will start building real momentum.
Another aspect that I’m keen to see us improve on is taking advantage when we are in control of games. I felt we didn’t do that last week after getting the two goals early in the match, and that made things difficult for us particularly in the second half. If we can get some control of the game on Saturday, I would like to see us being ruthless and capitalise on having that control, as any manager would want of their team.”
On the squad front the manager was delighted to confirm that he has almost a full squad to chose from with Simon Murray being the only player to miss out. Ray was however pleased to confirm that the striker has now returned to full training.
