Queen’s Park’s ‘Tickets for Schools’ initiative for Season 2023/24 ended last Friday night with Pollokshields Primary seen, and very much heard, at The National Stadium at Hampden during the exciting 2-0 win over Airdrieonians.
Pollokshields was the fifteenth school to come along to a Queen’s Park game this season as part of Scotland’s oldest club’s drive to give local schoolchildren what often is their first ever experience of watching a football match.
The total number of children, teachers and supporting adults, who have been part of ‘Tickets for Schools’, has reached four figures and that is a number Queen’s Park are very proud of.
Kieran Koszary, who is Head of Commercial at Queen’s Park said: “Tickets for Schools has been a tremendous success in lots of ways. We are providing a unique experience to loads of children that begins with a visit of a Queen’s Park player ahead of a game. The player talks about being a professional footballer, and about anything else the children ask him, as well as handing over Match Tickets, Black and White scarves and T-shirts.
“Our players have been fantastic in giving up their time to be ambassadors of the club. Their attitude has been one of wanting to help with ‘Tickets for Schools’ as opposed to having to help with ‘Tickets for Schools’.
Kieran added: “We are not only proud of that 1,000 number, but we are also proud of the relationship that we have built with our local schools. We are also proud of our partnerships with McDades Coaches, who supply transport to and from the game as well as with local companies PTS Clean, Laurie Ross and Buck’s Bar Southside, who provided vouchers for half-time drinks and snacks.
“To provide so many children with their first experience of going to a football game is terrific. We cannot say that every child will become a frequent visitor to Queen’s Park, but we know that since the start of the season a number have and that is terrific.”
