Young Spiders Update: Harris Afzal

QUEEN’S PARK FC can confirm Harris Afzal will leave the club at the end of this season, and join Southampton FC.

The young defender stepped up to the Wee Spiders from grassroots football and has been an impressive performer for both Queen’s Park under-19s and under-17s level in the CAS Advanced Youth set-up this season.

Sean Crighton has included the 16-year-old in several first-team squads this season too, including the trip to Ibrox to face Rangers in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup and most recently at home to Raith Rovers on Tuesday night.

He will move on with the club’s best wishes but still has a busy end to an excellent season to look forward to with the Scottish Youth Cup Final at Hampden, league run-in and CAS Cup finals to look forward to.

Coach Lee Mitchell said: “While disappointed to lose a player of Harris’ quality, we are absolutely delighted he has been given this opportunity – one that he has most definitely earned.

“When Harris joined us from boys’ club football he had a difficult first season with injury, however he showed resilience and quality to meet the demands of the club and excelled in the team.

“He has kicked on since then, he has been a pleasure to work with and his dedication and enthusiasm, as well as his talent, has earned him this chance.

“We will wish him well when he goes but Harris has made it clear to us he intends to finish the season strongly, with much to look forward to over the coming weeks at Queen’s Park.

“Everyone at the club congratulates him on this move and will follow his career journey with pride.”
